Is therapy right for me?

Most likely if you’re already asking yourself this question, the answer is: YES!
The idea of therapy can still be intimidating even if you’ve been to therapy before, understand all the benefits it has to offer, or realize therapy may be a helpful step toward personal growth. Despite knowing all of this, choosing to start therapy can still feel overwhelming. Your feelings are valid, and finding a way to step outside of your comfort zone to start something beneficial is such a brave step.
Sometimes you hit all the bullet point questions as to “how do I know if therapy is right for me,” and sometimes you might not. And both are acceptable starting points. You could have a major concern or goal in mind that you need support with; you may have a significant event that sticks out as something that has changed you; or you might need an unbiased voice to talk to for support and growth. In some cases, we are well aware of our challenges, obstacles, and weaknesses, and sometimes we’re not.
There is never a right or wrong answer to why to start therapy. But whatever the reason, therapy is here to help clients learn, grow, and heal. So whether there’s a glaring reason to start, or a simple thought of hopefulness toward change, therapy is here to be exactly what you need it to be, as long as you allow it to be with effort and time.
Remember it is valid to feel nervous, worried, scared, unsure - any and all emotional responses are real and acceptable! Therapy will always be tailored to your needs & goals and your voice will matter. You’re valid to feel hesitant or worried on a new journey, but don’t let it stop you from where you want to be in life.
Again, when wondering, “is therapy right for me,” most likely if you’re considering it, the answer is yes! And that’s because there is not a one-size-fits all answer for “why” or “if” you should start therapy. It can simply be, because you want to. Taking the first step is the biggest step of all!
